Providing Low Interest Loans to Students Entering College
Established in 1973 by Bro. George H. and Anna Casper, the program was developed to provide low interest loans to high school students in need of financial assistance for college.
Bro. George H. Casper, a member of Canton Lodge No. 60, F. & A. M., was in the construction business in Canton and also had successful real estate investments in this area.
The Trust is administered by Huntington Financial Group and The Stark Community Foundation.
| Student must have a 2.6 GPA or above | |
| Be a resident of Stark County | |
| Exhibit a need for assistance | |
| First-time applicants must be available for a short interview with the Committee |
Loans are granted in the amount of $2000 to $2400 per school year dependent on the annual net earnings of the Trust and are renewable each year.
Students are not required to begin repayment until they graduate, the first two years following graduation being interest-free. If the student leaves school or discontinues their education, payment begins immediately.
An Advisory Committee composed of Masons from the various Masonic bodies in Canton receive and act on applications which are then forwarded to The Stark Community Foundation for their approval and then to Huntington Financial Group for disbursement.
For the school year 2007-2008, this Trust assisted 53 students for a total of $120,200.00. As Masons, we are proud of our involvement in the community and to have the opportunity to further the education of tomorrow's leaders.
